Dear Friends,

They recently painted a dining room for us and did a great job. Also check out the spotlight on Josephine’s Wine Bar and Bistro. We love this place at the SW corner of the Tollway and Lebanon and if you mention this newsletter, you will get 20% off your food between now and December 30. Go check them out today. You won’t be disappointed. Also check out the special offer that Face & Body Day Spa has included for newsletter readers a little further down in the newsletter. A lot of work goes into putting this newsletter together and I greatly appreciate the support of our sponsors so please patronize them wherever possible.
This newsletter and information source is designed to bring us all a little closer together each week by providing coverage of so many things going on in our community. There are so many amazing things in this newsletter, as there are every week. Please forward this newsletter to all your friends and neighbors and encourage them to sign up to receive it themselves. They will greatly appreciate you for it as no citizen should be without this important information at their fingertips.
Yesterday was the 65th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. As I was reading a story about the attacks from the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, I just wanted to echo their motto, “Remember Pearl Harbor, Keep America Alert”.
On that note, don’t forget about the Holiday Veterans Salute at Frisco Square this Saturday. The festivities start at 4:55 with the Frisco Community Band playing patriotic music. There will be a fly by of F-16s at 5:30 and parachuting elves and Santa at 5:35. The outdoor movie, Elf, starts around 6pm. There is a press release towards the end of the newsletter with more information.
Please remember to turn off your automatic sprinklers for the winter. There is no reason to use these in the winter and we must conserve water this winter to avoid further water restrictions next summer.
If you have questions or have any community events, people or groups you want to recognize, fundraising events, or any newsworthy items you would like to see added and shared with more than thirty-five thousand residents and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding areas, please send them to me at matt@mattlafata.com so I may include them. The newsletter goes out each Thursday and I need materials by the end of the day on the preceding Wednesday if you want something to be included.
If you have a business, restaurant or a service and are interested in advertising and reaching more than 35,000 individuals and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding areas, please email us at sales@mattlafatamarketing.com for more details on the various options available to you. The newsletter is also included on the web site www.mattlafatamarketing.com and www.frisco-online.com for additional exposure. It’s a great way to promote your business, promote an event at your place of business and is the most cost effective and efficient way to reach a large segment of the Frisco population. You may want to also consider providing a special offer to newsletter readers only.

Spotlight on… Josephine’s Wine Bar & Bistro:
This interview was conducted with Chris and Cynde Gangi, owners of Josephine’s. If you haven’t been to Josephine’s yet, you are missing a real treat. This is a wonderful restaurant run by wonderful people. We have been there many times, including a recent dinner party, and the food and atmosphere is fantastic. Visit them today, and tell them I sent you and they will give you a 20% discount on your food order…
Chris and Cynde, thanks for your time today. Tell our readers a little bit about your great new restaurant:
Josephine’s wine bar& bistro is a family owned restaurant that you can come with friends or family and enjoy a great meal and a glass of wine. I began with an idea years ago and with my wife’s help, Cynde, we blended our thoughts, ideas and love of good food & wine together to create a beautiful atmosphere. The menu is created from some family old and new favorites, and executed by Chris Peters the chef.
You have a great chef who always comes out to visit with us when we are there. So, what makes your restaurant unique?
Our restaurant has a comfortable blend of old world and contemporary design. Most of it is inspired by what we saw in Italy. The warm colors of the walls and richness of the wood offer an inviting atmosphere. We have pictures from our travels to Tuscany, Rome, Venice, and Florence. You can also look at the picture books of Italy’s food, wine, and history that we have on the book shelves. The map of Sicily is a replica of one we saw in the Vatican in Rome. Our family name is on it, so we thought it was special to add to the restaurant. We also took the name “Josephine” from Chris’ Italian grandmother. You will see some pictures of her also in the restaurant.
The menu offers a Tuscan cuisine. Some of the favorites are sea bass, glazed pork chop, mussels, veal, pappardelle, stone fired pizzas, and panini’s.
We also have a wonderful patio with a fire place to enjoy your lunch or dinner dining outside. There is a wine room in which you can seat 12-15 people for a cozier setting.
It’s great that you have been to Italy. Hopefully the lessons I am learning in Italian will pay off when we get to go to Italy some day. By the way, you did a fantastic job decorating it. I love the ambiance and just love your food. By now, our readers are wanting to come dine with you so how does somebody find you?
Located at the Shops of Starwood at 6959 Lebanon, Ste114 (SW corner of Tollway and Lebanon). Our website is www.josephineswinebar.com. Our hours are Mon-Sat. 11:00am-10:00pm, Fri-Sat till 11:00, closed Sunday

Your Texas Tornado played in Alaska this Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Friday night was not a memorable one against the Fairbanks Ice dogs. Saturday was a turnaround. Tuesday and Wednesday the Tornado continued their wins against the Alaska Avalanche.
Friday night they were not awake one bit, probably from the long flight to Alaska. Corson Cramer started in net and let in 3 goals in 12 minutes and 40 seconds. Thomas Tragust took over in net after the 3rd goal. The 2nd period was the Tornado’s turn. Mike Cifelli scored the 1st Tornado goal of the night with rookies Jake Newton and Ben Miller assisting. Ryan Fuller put the last Tornado goal in with 13 seconds left in the period, making the score 3-2 and possibly giving the Tornado a chance. But the score became final in the 3rd period when Fairbanks scored on a 5 on 3 game to make it 4-2. Fairbanks completely out shot the Tornado 41-26.
Saturday night the Tornado walked away with a remarkable 7-3 win. The 1st period was half and half. Fairbanks had their first 2 goals in the first 5 minutes. Ryan Fuller had his 1st of 4 goals with Mike Cifelli assisting. Brian Reagan finished off the period with a goal with Ryan Fuller and Nielsson Arcibal assisting. Ryan Fuller scored his 2nd in the 2nd period on a power play. Tom Brooks and John Bullis assisted. Julian Mikola put one in to make the score 4-2 at the end of the 2nd period. The 3rd period closed the case but first Fairbanks needed one more goal at 11 minutes in. 19 seconds later, Tom Brooks scored the 5th goal of the night with Justin King assisting. Ryan Fuller had 2 more goals, one being an empty net, for 4 goals of the game. Tonight they completely out shot Fairbanks 41-24. The 3 stars were: Ryan Fuller, John Bullis and Kyle Schmidt (Fairbanks).
Tuesday night the Tornado picked up another win, 4-1. The 1st period was scoreless against the Alaska Avalanche. In the 2nd period, Mike Cifelli picked up his 4th goal with Sean Roadhouse scoring soon after. Fairbanks scored a minute after Roadhouse’s goal. Mike Cifelli scored his 2nd goal of the night in the 3rd period with Julian Mikola assisting. Dylan Cooper finished off the game with an empty net goal, to give the Tornado another win 4-1. Shots on goal were 47-15, as the Tornado dominated.
Wednesday they won their 3rd game in a row, 4-2. Alaska scored the solo goal in the 1st period. The 2nd period was all Tornado as John Bullis scored with Brian Reagan and Ryan Fuller assisting. Soon after Justin King scored shorthanded and unassisted. In the 3rd period Alaska scored on a power play. The game was tied 2-2, and apparently Jake Newton did not want to go into overtime so he put in a goal with 16 seconds left on a power play to make it 3-2. John Bullis finished it off with an empty net goal with 1 second left to make the final 4-2. Shots on goal were 40-30, Tornado.
The next Tornado game is Saturday night at 10:30, as they are still in Alaska. And the next home game will be on December 15 and it is Skate with the Tornado and Santa after the game. For tickets call 972-335-9800 or go to www.tornadohockey.com.

Mice, soldiers, Clara’s friends and other surprise characters mix and mingle with our wee guests during the tea for informal photo and dancing opportunities! There is a raffle for a ballerina bear and other nice gifts; and finally a goodie-bag for our small guests to take home!

The PAYjr Prepaid MasterCard is a re-loadable debit card for teenagers 13 and up. The card can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted including ATM machines. The card is a prepaid card, meaning teens can’t spend money they don’t have. The program is also designed to help teens learn about managing their finances. The PAYjr prepaid debit card can be used as a tool for parents to not only connect with their teens, but to instill a sense of financial responsibility in which they will use for the rest of their life.
The card is a safer substitute for cash and easier for teens to track and save money. Also, if the card is lost or stolen it is easily replaced, unlike cash. Advantages for parents include instant access to the teens account activity and knowing where their teen is spending their money. Parents don’t have to worry about teens attempting to buy online adult services or products because PAYjr blocks them.
The PAYjr website is www.payjr.com. Plus PAYjr has a MySpace for teens to check out at www.myspace.com/payjr. Here your teens can escape to a place to learn useful saving tips, be involved in card design and voting, and even post their own thoughts and comments about the card. We at PAYjr want to combine financial knowledge and creativity for teens to apply and use in everyday life.
Make this holiday season a memorable one by giving the gift of financial education to your teen!

Family Hope, in association with International Family Services (a Texas-based 501(c)(3) licensed child placing agency), will be welcoming a group of Ukrainian orphans, ages 6 to 12, next month as they arrive at DFW marking the beginning of their 3 week American cultural encounter. The purpose of the program is to give the orphans a chance to experience American culture and a wholesome family environment. The program will also create awareness about the need for adoptive families for older children residing in Ukrainian orphanages.
During their visit, the children will be fully immersed in American culture. The children will attend a day camp three days a week where they will be introduced to typical American activities like sports, the mall and museums. Once a week, there will be a public event where interested families can interact with the children still available for adoption.
Families interested in adopting an older child and/or welcoming a child in their home as a host family, are encouraged to contact John Peterson or Stacy Zonis immediately. Interested families can contact John Peterson, DFW Family Hope Coordinator, at 817-291-8676 or email him at john@ifservices.org. No. 1 ranked American singles player James Blake, ATP World No. 1 doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan and ATP Tour Star Mardy Fish will headline the Dallas FedEX Shootout Series presented by Saab and Baylor Medical Center at Frisco on Saturday, December 16th at 7:00pm at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco.
People magazine named James Blake as one of the sexiest men alive. The former Harvard “All American” just might seem to have it all with 10 career titles. James Blake is on top of his game, and is excited about the opportunity to come to the Dallas Ft. Worth Metroplex to play tennis. “This is a great opportunity to bring world class men’s tennis back to Dallas. I’m also looking forward to playing Mardy Fish. It will be a great match. Mardy and I reached the doubles finals in Memphis and semi finals in Houston earlier this year. We know each others game. So the match will be tough.”
Rising U.S. tennis star Mardy Fish won a silver medal in the 2004 Athens Olympic games and has played in five Davis Cup ties for the U.S. “James Blake and I won the deciding doubles point against Slovakia in Oklahoma City,” says Mardy Fish. “I look forward to returning to Dallas and playing James. It will be a battle, he’s such a great competitor.”
In addition to the Blake and Fish men’s singles match, the world #1 doubles team, Bob and Mike Bryan will team up to challenge James Blake and Thomas Blake in the “Battle of the Brothers”. Perhaps this will be the most interesting match of the evening. Bob holds 29 and Mike holds 31 career titles in doubles. So far in 2006 the Bryans have won two slams, the Australian Open and Wimbledon and were finalist at the French Open.
“This will be a great night of world class tennis and family entertainment,” says Tim Stallard, event producer and president of PROLINK Sports and Entertainment. “The last time the FedEX Shootout Series came to Dallas featuring Andy Roddick and Taylor Dent, they played to a sold out crowd. James Blake, the Byran Brothers and Mardy Fish offer a great addition to the Fed EX Shootout Series, providing tennis fans with the best in men’s tennis.”
