Dear Friends,

This week’s newsletter is sponsored by We Made it of Frisco. With the holidays coming up, it’s a great time to call owner and Frisco resident, Crystal Parrish, who will take care of your cleaning needs so you can spend your time elsewhere. Also, check out the spotlight on Santa’s Family Portraits. A lot of work goes into putting this newsletter together and I greatly appreciate the support of our sponsors so please patronize them wherever possible.

If you would like to advertise in this newsletter and reach more than 35,000 captive residents and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding communities, many different opportunities are available to you. It’s the most efficient and cost effective form of advertising in this area so please email sales@mattlafatamarketing.com for more information.

This newsletter and information source is designed to bring us all a little closer together each week by providing coverage of so many things going on in our community. Please forward this newsletter to all your friends and neighbors and encourage them to sign up to receive it themselves. They will greatly appreciate you for it as no citizen should be without this important information at their fingertips.

With Veterans Day approaching, I want to give a personal thank you to all the veterans out there who have given service to our great country. Regardless of what role you may have played, you have done what less than 1% of Americans volunteer to do and you are all heroes in my eyes and something you should be extremely proud of. Each and every one of us owe you a great deal of gratitude.

Don’t forget the Frisco Community Parade this Saturday starting at 10am. It will begin at Pizza Hut Park and travel east on Frisco to North County Road. I’ll be looking for you from atop one of our fire engines!

The MLS Cup game takes place this Sunday at Pizza Hut Park. Don’t miss out on this event that will be televised nationwide by going to www.fcdallas.net and getting your tickets now, before they are gone. In fact, I believe the only tickets left at this point are standing room only.

Our Texas Tornado plays this weekend on Friday and Saturday night. Visit www.tornadohockey.com to purchase tickets and for more information.

Please remember that despite the rain this past weekend, we continue to be in the worst drought in 50 years. With this rain, and the cooler weather, please turn off your sprinklers. We all need to do everything we can to conserve because if we don’t get a substantial rainfall this winter, we will be in a more serious condition next summer.

The new Frisco Public Library, in its first full month of operation, recorded 37,578 visitors in the month of October as compared to 12,064 in October 2005 at the old Library, an increase of 211%. If you haven’t been to the new Library yet, you don’t know what you are missing. Visit it today in Frisco Square. It really is something.

If you have questions or have any community events, people or groups you want to recognize, fundraising events, or any newsworthy items you would like to see added and shared with more than thirty-five thousand residents and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding areas, please send them to me at matt@mattlafata.com so I may include them. The newsletter goes out each Thursday and I need materials by the end of the day on the preceding Wednesday if you want something to be included.

Newsletter Sponsor – We Maid It of Frisco – We make time…for YOU!

Well, summer’s over and fall is here; which means the holidays are just around the corner.  If you’re like me, there is much more to do, than time to do it.  Wouldn’t it be nice to simply buy some extra time?  That’s what million of Americans have decided to do – by having a professional residential cleaning service take care of the mundane chore of weekly cleaning.

We Made It of Frisco is owned and operated by Crystal Parrish who lives here in Frisco.  Crystal sponsored our newsletter about a year ago and wanted to do so again this month to remind you that with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, it’s a perfect time to look at using a professional cleaning service to help spruce up for the festivities!

Crystal points out that regardless of square footage or layout, no two houses are exactly the same.  She or one of her team will personally visit your home to best determine your specific requirements and develop a customized cleaning plan with flexible scheduling that fits your needs.  Whether you need cleaning weekly, biweekly or just a good, deep one-time ‘Holiday Special’ We Maid It offers great value at an affordable price.

We Maid It provides all cleaning supplies and materials, getting you out of the ‘stuff’ business.  They show up on the scheduled day, get it done, and get out of your way – they don’t move in.  We Maid It guarantees your satisfaction, or they’ll make it right and clean it again free!

Each of the We Maid It professionals is an employee of the company, not an independent contractor, and is covered by workers compensation insurance for your peace of mind.  The entire cleaning staff is bonded and We Maid It carries $1M in liability insurance for your protection.

Gentlemen – We Maid It residential cleaning service makes a super Christmas gift for the woman who seems to have everything else.

Ladies…we all know, husbands never buy the right kind of shoes, and do you really need another cookbook?  Time to hint heavily that We Maid It in 2007 is the gift that keeps giving!

Give Crystal a call at We Maid It of Frisco at 214 705 8505 or through their web site: www.wemaidit.netWe Maid It of Frisco – We make time…for YOU!

If you have a business, restaurant or a service and are interested in advertising and reaching more than 35,000 individuals and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding areas, please email us at sales@mattlafatamarketing.com for more details. The newsletter is also included on the web site www.mattlafatamarketing.com and www.frisco-online.com for additional exposure. It’s a great way to promote your business, promote an event at your place of business and is the most cost effective way to reach a large segment of the Frisco population. Table of Contents:

Because this newsletter continues to grow in size with so much going on in Frisco and the surrounding areas, I have added a table of contents. It’s not a clickable table of contents, yet, but that will be happening soon. For now, it is simply a listing, in order, of everything in this newsletter. For those of you who submit things to me to be added to the newsletter, you may want to consider using descriptive titles for your submission in the future, otherwise I will continue to make them up..

Advertorial Opportunity:

Advertising meets editorial! Do you like to write? I am looking for new monthly columns for the newsletter, similar to the “Advice From Dr. Checo” column. It has to be an informative topic for our readers and this is a great opportunity for you to showcase and grow your business. Just ask Dr. Checo what kind of positive impact it has had on his business. In any event, I have two advertorial spots available for a monthly column and you would need to make a minimum three month commitment. If interested, please email sales@mattlafatamarketing.com with your idea and we will get back to you with details and pricing. This is a very unique opportunity and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tornado Talk…by Junior Reporter, Kaleigh Lafata:

Hello Frisco,

Another whirlwind weekend for the Tornado occurred Friday & Saturday this past weekend. On Friday, their 5 game winning streak, was snapped and they only lost by one point. Saturday, they pulled ahead once again and took home the win, 3-0.  This coming weekend, the Tornado have two more home games, against the 1st place St. Louis Bandits.

Friday night was a disappointment, especially since it was such a close game in the end. Fairbanks struck first halfway through the 1st period. In the 2nd period, Stephane Da Costa scored the 1st Tornado goal of the night only 23 seconds into the period with Ryan Fuller assisting. Alaska scored again, only 2 minutes later on a power play.  Then, only one minute later, Alaska struck one more time to make the score 3-1 and they never looked back. The 3rd period was almost scoreless until Ryan Fuller put one in with Tom Brooks and Stephane Da Costa assisting on the play. But, it wasn’t good enough as the Tornado lost the game 3-2. They also got out shot 38-17 and the three stars of the game were Stephane Da Costa, Ryan Fuller, and Colin Long.

Saturday night, the Tornado were back on track. About 3 minutes into the game, Brian Reagan scored the goal with Adam Flink and Nathan Lawrence. The rest of the period was scoreless. 6 minutes into the 2nd period, Nathan Lawrence had his first goal since being traded to the Tornado on October 25. It was a really nice goal, because the goalie barely caught the puck and then dropped it in the net for the goal. Dylan Cooper and Troy Puente assisted on the goal. In the 3rd period, Sean Roadhouse scored 15 minutes in with an assist from Stephane Da Costa. Goalie Corson Cramer had a shutout, and the Tornado spread their goal scoring out evenly over the 3 periods. They completely out shot Fairbanks 42-11 and the three stars of the game were Nathan Lawrence, Corson Cramer and Brian Reagan.

So don’t miss the 2 home games on Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th. Friday is Frisco-Online rally towel night and the start of the canned food drive. Saturday will be Support the Troops night and the canned food drive. If you need to get tickets call 972-335-9800 or go to www.tornadohockey.com. Thanks for reading!

Veterans Day Event:

The Friends of the Frisco Public Library is hosting a Veteran’s Day Luncheon on Saturday, November 11 at Noon following the “Salute to the Troops” Parade that begins at 10:00am.

Our guest speaker will be Ray Hildreth author of Hill 488.   Mr. Hildreth was a member of an eighteen man Marine Recon Patrol that had been positioned on top of Hill 488, approximately 25 miles southwest of Da Nang. On June 15th, 1966, the Marine patrol received a report that an estimated battalion size enemy force was in their area and could be headed their way. The platoon was placed on 100% alert.

During that night and the next morning every member of the Recon Platoon was either wounded or killed. The enemy paid a high price as well. The sixteen Marines, two Navy Corpsman, and their close air support wounded or killed approximately 200 of the enemy force.  Some reports say that the Recon Platoon was out numbered by twenty to one. One source said it was like the Alamo, only with survivors. Readers Digest reported the story in May 1968 and stated that the platoon was the most decorated unit for its size in 195 years of American Military Service.

In addition to the eighteen Purple Hearts for each platoon member, there were thirteen Silver Stars, four Navy Crosses, and one Congressional Medal of Honor given for the battle of Hill 488.

Come and hear first hand from Mr Hildreth, how the battle for Hill 488 was won.   Tickets for the event are $25.00 and may be purchased at the Library until Nov. 9, or by calling Judy Clark at 972-335-9508.   Seating is limited to 50 and will be held in the McCallum Room of the George A Purefoy Municipal Center.  Lunch will be catered by Dickie’s Bar-B-Que.   Proceeds from the event will benefit the Frisco Public Library.

Collin County Ballet Theatre Guild is excited to announce the dates for this year’s Sugar Plum Fairy Teas.

Sunday, November 26, 2006 and Sunday, December 10, 2006 from 2-4pm.

The Collin County Ballet Theatre Guild is pleased to announce the dates for this year’s much-anticipated Sugar Plum Fairy’s Teas.  The teas have become a tradition for families in Frisco and the surrounding communities to kick-off the holiday season!  This premier mother-daughter (or grandparent-grandchild) event is always a desirable destination and the seats sell out quickly.

Make your reservations early for either date and the elegant Westin Stonebriar in Frisco is again sponsoring the ballet guild fundraiser.

The tea is a great value; all tea guests are treated to a parade of all the Nutcracker ballet characters led by Clara, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.  There will be short performances of dances from the Nutcracker.

In addition to a lovely high tea service complete with sweets, finger sandwiches, scones, strawberries and cream, each guest will get a photograph of themselves taken with the Sugar Plum Fairy, Clara and other beloved characters from the ballet.  Mice, soldiers, Clara’s friends and other surprise characters mix and mingle with our wee guests during the tea for informal photo and dancing opportunities!  There is a raffle for a ballerina bear and other nice gifts; and finally a goodie-bag for our small guests to take home!

There is a holiday boutique with special ballet treasures and ornaments for purchase.

Put on your holiday clothes to come enjoy an old-fashioned tea.

For tea reservations please call: 469.951.1399. Price: $25. Master Card/Visa accepted. More information at www.CCBallet.com

Please note that the full Nutcracker Ballet will be performed by the Collin County Ballet Theatre at two sites again this year.  The first performance is at the elegant Eisemann Theatre in Richardson on Sunday, December 3rd at 5:00p with the Plano Symphony Orchestra. There will be two performances in Frisco at the new Wakeland High School’s “state of the art” auditorium, Saturday, December 9th at 2:00p and 7:30p. Message from the Savvy Source for Parents:

Parents…We Need Your Help!

If you are the parent of a preschool aged child, we need your help.  An online resource project called the Savvy Source for Parents is being compiled now.  Its goal is to provide a comprehensive and detailed overview of preschools in Frisco and the surrounding areas.  It is intended to help parents weed thru the overwhelming amount of preschool information that is out there so that they feel they can make an informed decision about what school is the best fit for them and their child.  The site will include information and parent feedback on 33 Frisco preschools, as well as links to school web sites and application information, where available.  The web site will include the nuts & bolts information about tuition costs, teacher/student ratios, admissions process, etc.  The most vital part of the project however is the parent feedback. This is your opportunity to help your friends and neighbors by completing a survey highlighting your experiences at your child’s preschool.

The survey is designed to get specific parent-focused information on things like the quality of teaching and the school's parent community that will help round out the review of each preschool.   The survey takes about 15 - 20 minutes.  All information is kept confidential.  You can find the survey at www.thesavvysource.com.   Just follow the link to “Review a School” and you will find Frisco located under the Dallas heading.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.  Please ask your friends and neighbors to complete a survey as well.  The information we can provide as parents is invaluable.  If you have any questions about this project or just want more information before filling out a survey, contact, Elizabeth King, Frisco Savvy Source Coordinator & Frisco mom of 2 at 469-384-8002 or Elizabet-k@sbcglobal.net

16th Annual Merry Main Street to Feature New “Festival of Trees”; Activity Proceeds to Benefit Senior Center at Frisco Square:

Help deck the halls of the Senior Center at Frisco Square by trimming a tree!  Participate in ‘Festival of Trees’ – a new addition to the 16th annual Merry Main Street celebration to be held on Dec. 2.

The Frisco Senior Adult Center Advisory Council, a non-profit organization, is inviting citizens of all ages to decorate Christmas trees, which will be displayed at a silent auction. Participants are asked to donate decorations.

Fifteen artificial, 3 ft. trees are ready to be decorated and can be picked up at the Senior Center at Frisco Square, 6670 Moore Street.  A $20 deposit will be required at the time of pickup and refunded when the trees are returned decorated.  The deadline to return decorated trees is November 27, between noon and 7 p.m. at the vacant store front on 6100 block of Frisco Square, next to Bella Cosa.    Auction proceeds from the trees will be used to purchase equipment and supplies for the Phase II addition of the Senior Center at Frisco Square, which is currently under construction.

“We’re so grateful voters approved bond monies to build the Phase ll addition to the center,” said Judy Florence, Senior Center Supervisor.  “But we’ll still need some help filling the additional space with the equipment and supplies we need to serve our growing senior population.”

Some of the items the Frisco Senior Adult Center Advisory Council plans to purchase with event proceeds include a portable stage, table coverings, exercise equipment, blinds, ceiling fans and a ceramic kiln and supplies.

“We plan to make the Festival of Trees a regular feature of Merry Main Street,” said Florence.  “We hope folks will help us raise funds for the Senior Center and have fun helping us make Merry Main Street more festive than ever!”

The Festival of Trees will be displayed alongside the entrees in the City of Frisco’s Annual Gingerbread House Contest. Trees will be available for viewing and bidding between November Nov. 28 and Dec. 2. For more information on the Festival of Trees, call 972-335-5515 or e-mail jflorence@friscotexas.gov

Paula Lambert is a cheese maker and entrepreneur.  In 1982 she founded the Mozzarella Company, a small cheese factory in Dallas.  Initially producing about 100 pounds of mozzarella per week, today her company produces a long list of specialty gourmet cheeses from cows' and goats' milk exceeding a quarter of a million pounds per year.  Her hand-crafted, award winning cheeses are now sold throughout the United States to restaurants, hotels and gourmet shops, as well as to cheese lovers at her factory shop in the Deep Ellum section of Dallas.  The cheeses have been featured in publications such as Gourmet, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit and the New York Times.  In 1997 her cheeses entered the international marketplace, being sold to restaurants in Mexico City and served aboard South African Airlines!

Over the years the cheeses have become famous.  They have been featured in publications such as Gourmet, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit and The New York Times and they have been served at the Academy Awards and to presidents and royalty.  In May 1998 Paula was chosen for the James Beard Foundation's Who's Who of Food and Beverage in America.  She is the fourth Texan to join the prestigious list.

In 2000 Paula's first cookbook, The Cheese Lovers Cookbook and Guide, was published and was a finalist for the World Cookbook Awards in Cork, Ireland.  Paula has agreed to bring her cookbooks and have a book signing at the end of our meeting for anyone who would like to purchase her book for $35 plus tax.

An experienced traveler in France, Italy, Greece and Mexico, Paula loves nothing better than going to local markets with friends in tow, finding the freshest and most delicious produce and returning to the kitchen to prepare a feast. She still travels extensively, speaking before groups and teaching cooking classes in the United States and abroad.  Paula enjoys gardening, traveling, and walking with Baby, her Gordon Setter.
