Dear Friends,
This week’s newsletter is sponsored by Angela Patterson’s Farm Fresh Pecans. Pecans make a great gift for the holiday season so contact Angela today. Also check out the spotlight on Dr. Birjis Chinoy with Allergy and Asthma Solutions here in Frisco. So many people suffer from allergies this time of year so rather than suffer, give Dr. Chinoy a call. A lot of work goes into putting this newsletter together and I greatly appreciate the support of our sponsors so please patronize them wherever possible.
If you would like to advertise in this newsletter and reach more than 35,000 captive residents and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding communities, many different opportunities are available to you. It’s the most efficient and cost effective form of advertising in this area so please email sales@mattlafatamarketing.com for more information.
This newsletter and information source is designed to bring us all a little closer together each week by providing coverage of so many things going on in our community. Please forward this newsletter to all your friends and neighbors and encourage them to sign up to receive it themselves. They will greatly appreciate you for it as no citizen should be without this important information at their fingertips.
If you haven’t had the chance yet, and you probably haven’t since they just opened, go check out Josephine’s Wine Bar & Bistro located at the Shops at Starwood (SW corner of Lebanon and the Tollway). This very unique restaurant has great food, great wine, and great service. You can read more about them later in this newsletter but we have been there a couple of times already and absolutely love it. I’ll be writing a review of our experience in an upcoming newsletter.
Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour this weekend!
Our Texas Tornado plays this weekend on Saturday and Sunday night. Visit www.tornadohockey.com to purchase tickets and for more information.
Our FC Dallas has a big playoff game this Saturday here in Frisco at Pizza Hut Park. Visit www.fcdallas.net for more information and to purchase tickets as they pursue a berth in the MLS Cup, which is also being held here in Frisco. See additional information a little further down in the newsletter.
Some of you have asked when Halloween trick-or-treating will take place in Frisco and it will be on Halloween itself, October 31, not the weekend before. Please be extra careful when driving around Tuesday evening as there will be lots of kids walking around and some will be in costumes which may impede their vision.
With the rain we have received this week, and the cooler temperatures, please consider shutting off your sprinkler system for a while. We are in a very serious drought condition, and will most likely continue to be there for some time now, so please do your part and help us conserve.
At one of our council meetings in November, we will discuss the possibility of enacting a ban on smoking on Frisco. I’m interested in your comments on that so please email me with your opinion on whether Frisco should go smoke-free in restaurants or not.
If you have questions or have any community events, people or groups you want to recognize, fundraising events, or any newsworthy items you would like to see added and shared with more than thirty-five thousand residents and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding areas, please send them to me at matt@mattlafata.com so I may include them. The newsletter goes out each Thursday and I need materials by the end of the day on the preceding Wednesday if you want something to be included.
Newsletter Sponsor – Angela Patterson’s Farm Fresh Pecans
With the holidays just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about pecan pies and all those tasty homemade treats. Or let me make your holiday shopping easier with an order of Farm Fresh Pecans. Pecans make a great gift for family, friends, your manicurist, hair stylist, clients, the boss, or a hostess gift for all the seasonal parties!
I live in Frisco by my pecan orchard is located on a 900-acre ranch in North Central Texas along the Red River on some of the richest soil in the state. Harvest has already started and I only sell this year’s crop. I specialize in ready-to-eat shelled pecans but also offer whole or cracked. Decorative tins and shipping are available.
Like any product, pecans are best when fresh. There’s no comparison between my delicious pecans and the ones packaged on a shelf next to baking items at the grocery store. Pecans should not be extremely dark brown or dry. They can be stored in the freezer for up to two years or in the refrigerator for several months.
Pecans are a heart healthy snack:

Spotlight on…Dr. Birjis Chinoy with Allergy and Asthma Solutions:
The Doc ….. Dr. Birjis Chinoy is board-certified in allergy/immunology. He is qualified to treat both children and adults and has been in private practice for 10 years. He is a board member of the Dallas Chapter of Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and actively helps to raise awareness. He lives in Frisco with this wife and 2 children.
The Allergist ….. due to specialized training, an allergist/immunologist is the best-qualified medical professional to effectively manage the comprehensive needs of patients with allergic disease. We are trained in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of immune system problems such as seasonal allergies, asthma and a wide spectrum of allergic diseases. Unlike a cold, allergic disease is not a condition that someone can just "get over." Studies show that those under the care of an allergist/immunologist also make fewer visits to emergency rooms, and are better able to daily manage their allergies and asthma.
Asthma ….. if your asthma is under control you should be symptom-free all or most of the time. You should not have to restrict every-day physical activity. You should be able to sleep through the night without asthma symptoms. Your child should not miss school or daycare because of asthma symptoms. If your child has asthma and needs to use his/her albuterol rescue inhaler more than twice a week, it may mean that his/her asthma is poorly controlled.
The Office ….. our office is a state of the art, purpose-built facility with all the amenities geared to making the patients' visit as smooth and efficient as possible. Some of the amenities that we have available for our patients include, a “hot-spot” that allows the busy patient to be least disruptive from work, whilst in our office, a fully- stocked snack bar with gourmet coffee and soda, overhead music, television and a massage chair which has grown quite popular with our allergy shot patients, most of whom have a relaxing massage during the waiting period after their injection.
Convenient Location ….. our office is centrally located, on the corner of Warren and Parkwood in the heart of Frisco. Driving-up is easy and convenient with a walk-through main door and greeting from our friendly front-desk staff.
Fully Automated ….. from check-in to check-out we are a virtually paperless office. This reduces unnecessary wait-time as we are sensitive about our patient’s busy schedules.
Staff ….. our staff is friendly and always mindful of our patient’s concerns. Every effort is made to make the patient’s visit as pleasant as possible.
Our Ultimate Goal ….. with each patient, the ultimate goal is to improve and enhance quality of life. By providing personal attention, taking time to understand the patient’s problems with an in-depth analysis of symptoms, family history, home/work environment, we create a personalized plan tailored to the patient that is practical as well as attainable.

Table of Contents:
Because this newsletter continues to grow in size with so much going on in Frisco and the surrounding areas, I have added a table of contents. It’s not a clickable table of contents, yet, but that will be happening soon. For now, it is simply a listing, in order, of everything in this newsletter. For those of you who submit things to me to be added to the newsletter, you may want to consider using descriptive titles for your submission in the future, otherwise I will continue to make them up..

Beginning A New Tradition-The Frisco Community Parade:
Long time Frisco residents remember the annual homecoming parade as one of the big events of a small but fast growing town, where thousands of Frisco residents and families lined Main Street to honor the schools, football teams, bands and community organizations that participated. It has been a tradition that grew each year and is one that helped us to keep the “Small Town Feel”.
Since we have the fastest growing school district in the country for a city our size, and now that we have four high schools, representatives from the City of Frisco, the FISD and Frisco Chamber of Commerce met last year to see how we could keep this tradition going and even expand it. The result is what we hope will be a new tradition-The Frisco Community Parade. November 11 will be the date of our first Community Parade and will feature all four high school bands, football teams, Drill Teams and other sports teams, Homecoming Kings and Queens, other school and community groups and numerous businesses. In addition, the Frisco RoughRiders, Texas Tornado, Dallas Stars and FC Dallas have all agreed to participate with their mascots. This year the theme will be a “Salute to the Troops” in honor of Veteran’s Day. It will give us an opportunity as a community to express our appreciation to all those who serve and protect our nation.
The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m., starting at the south end of Frisco Street near Pizza Hut Park and will move east on Main Street to North County Road. The parade route will be along the eastbound lanes of Main Street. With the expansion and widening of the street and addition of tree-lined medians, there will be room for thousands of spectators. The tradition of the Mayor and City Council riding in our Fire Engines will continue and this year our Grand Marshall will be Brig. General Mike Cates, U.S. Army and a Frisco High School graduate. We will also have military vehicles and a possible fly-over of planes during the parade. Anyone who is currently serving in the military or is a veteran is urged to wear their uniform and participate in the parade. You can go on the web site at www.Friscoparade.com to get additional information on the parade and how to participate.
We are urging businesses, organizations or groups to be in the parade. The cost to participate is $ 200 for business and adult organizations and $ 150 for youth organizations. Schools, non-profit organizations, Military and city entrees will not be charged to enter. We are also looking for volunteers to help and to be stationed along the parade route to make certain the crowds are kept back from the parade vehicles and to help promote the parade.
We hope to continue to build the parade to become one of the biggest and best in North Texas. At some point, we hope to add college bands, floats and other exciting activities as part of the event. We hope that you and your family will come out on November 11 to enjoy the parade. If you are a business or organization, we want you to participate and encourage you to consider building a float! Some of my fondest memories from high school and college were the “float making parties” that helped bond the students, parents and organizations together. Be creative and make this new parade the start of a NEW TRADITION for Frisco-The Frisco Community Parade.

Sunday, October 29 at 3:30pm at Central Park in Frisco
The Frisco Jazz Band has planned a fall concert! They will be performing many upbeat music selections at 3:30 pm on Sunday, October 29th at Central Park, located at 3155 Parkwood Drive, in Frisco, Texas. Central Park is adjacent to Hampton Inn & Suites between Gaylord Parkway and Warren Parkway on Parkwood Drive.
The Frisco Community Jazz Band, directed by Mr. Gary Pearce, has been performing since May of 2004. The band is made up of local Frisco residents and play charts ranging from Big Band to Dixieland Jazz to more modern themes. The jazz band features amazingly talented soloists on trumpet, trombone, saxophone, guitar and drums, and many musicians in the band take advantage of the opportunity to play how they feel at the moment by improvising.
Karen Strauss, Vice President of Public Relations for the Frisco Community Band, says the Jazz band is looking forward to performing in the fall. “The Jazz band is a more concentrated group of musicians that work closely together and produce a tight, hip sound- they’re just a pleasure to listen to. The music choices are so upbeat, and the audience always participates!”
The Frisco Community Jazz Band was formed in Summer 2004 as a part of the Frisco Community Band, which is a non-profit, all volunteer organization benefiting the City of Frisco and its neighboring communities. The Frisco Community Band provides local musicians with the opportunity to expand or continue their experience in the performing arts with the ultimate purpose of making live, symphonic and ensemble music accessible to all segments of the community.
The Frisco Community Band is funded by grants from the Frisco Association of the Arts and Target, also by donations and member dues. All area musicians with at least high school experience are welcome and there are no auditions for the Concert Band. Performances are free to the public.
