Dear Friends,

This week’s newsletter is proudly sponsored by Baby Consign and their baby and children’s consignment sale on November 3rd and 4th. Also check out the spotlight on The Mortgage Gallery and their offer for a free credit report and appraisal for newsletter readers – something we can all use. A lot of work goes into putting this newsletter together and I greatly appreciate the support of our sponsors so please patronize them wherever possible.

If you would like to advertise in this newsletter and reach more than 35,000 captive residents and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding communities, many different opportunities are available to you. It’s the most efficient and cost effective form of advertising in this area so please email sales@mattlafatamarketing.com for more information.

Please forward this newsletter to all your friends and neighbors and encourage them to sign up to receive it themselves. They will greatly appreciate you for it as no citizen should be without this important information at their fingertips.

Don’t forget that Randy’s Steakhouse on Main Street in Frisco is offering 20% off an entrée until midnight October 14 for newsletter readers only. Just stop by and mention you read about them in this newsletter while this great offer lasts.

Hopefully you had a chance to go to the Great Steak of Texas this past weekend in Frisco Square. What a great event and a great location. Congratulations and thank you to everybody involved in putting on the event. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!

Ever think about running for City Council? Next May, two current council members will be “termed” out so there will be two open seats up for election. Being on the City Council is an exciting place to be but it also takes a tremendous amount of time. If you have ever considered it, and would like to talk further about what is involved, I’d be happy to get together with you. Just let me know.

Our own FC Dallas is looking to clinch the western division with a win this Saturday night at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco against the L.A. Galaxy. Visit www.fcdallas.net for more information and to purchase tickets.

We remain in a very serious drought condition and continue to ask everybody to conserve water wherever possible. I want to thank those situations who comply with the restrictions that have been imposed on us and want to also thank those who report violators. Violators of these restrictions hurt us all by putting our future water supplies in jeopardy. Over the past four months, the City has had to shut-off almost 5,000 sprinkler systems for non-compliance and we have saved over 800 gallons during that time as a result of the restrictions.

If you have questions or have any community events, people or groups you want to recognize, fundraising events, or any newsworthy items you would like to see added and shared with more than thirty-five thousand residents and businesses in Frisco and the surrounding areas, please send them to me at matt@mattlafata.com so I may include them. The newsletter goes out each Thursday and I need materials by the end of the day on the preceding Wednesday if you want something to be included.

Spotlight on…The Mortgage Gallery:

This interview was held with Mike Banes, President and Mortgage Broker with The Mortgage Gallery…

Tell us about your business, Mike.

Mike Banes and The Mortgage Gallery have over 50 lending sources to ensure our clients receive the right product with very competitive rates and closing costs.  With nearly 9 years of mortgage experience, Mike has built a business on outstanding service resulting in a large referral network.  The Mortgage Gallery is locally owned, providing purchase, refinance, and cash back transactions for primary residences, 2nd homes, and rental properties.  We offer fixed and adjustable rates, 100% financing (no down payment), interest only, and many other products.

So what makes you different from your competition, what makes your business unique?

Mike Banes understands that every client does not have the same financial situation or goals.  Most clients are unaware of the hundreds of various mortgage products that exist in today’s market.  Mike will personally take the time to ask the questions necessary to ensure his clients are aware of all mortgage products that could potentially match their financial objectives.  He is interested in a long term relationship; not just a one time transaction. Give us a call, I assure you won’t be disappointed.

Ok, I’m assuming the phones are ringing by now. So tell me, how are the interest rates today?

Fixed rates have steadily decreased over the past 6 months.  Intermediate adjustable rates, such as the 5 year ARM, have dramatically increased over the past couple of years.  Now would be a great time to consider refinancing if you have an adjustable rate that is near the end of its fixed period, to avoid the potentially large increase in monthly payment.  A refinance may help you lower your monthly payment, decrease the term of your mortgage, eliminate PMI, and skip a monthly payment.

That’s great news about interest rates, Mike. How does someone find you?

You can reach me directly at 972-393-0900 or via email at mike@mikebanes.com.  My website, www.mikebanes.com, is a great resource for information, including a mortgage payment calculator to help you determine your payments at various rates and loan amounts.  You can also apply online.

Ok, everybody’s favorite part, any special offers for newsletter readers?

Mention you saw my feature in this newsletter and receive a free credit report and appraisal with a funded transaction.

Excellent! Ok, since I love to eat, what is your favorite restaurant in this area?

It’s tough to nail down a favorite.  Cantina Laredo is hard to beat on the weekends with its great food and atmosphere.  Randy’s Steakhouse provides a fantastic steak in a quiet setting.

I ate at Cantina Laredo just the other night. I love the “Ceviche”. Also, Randy’s is still offering a 20% discount off an entrée for newsletter readers until October 14 so I hope more people take advantage of that. As our readers now, I’m also a big music fan so tell us what kind of music are you listening to these days?

I really enjoy 80’s music, JACK FM, and Contemporary Christian.

I love 100.3 Jack-FM! Ok, Mike, anything else our readers should know about you before we wrap this up?

I am a die hard sports fan, active in my church, and enjoy dining out at new locations.

Table of Contents:

Because this newsletter continues to grow in size with so much going on in Frisco and the surrounding areas, I have added a table of contents. It’s not a clickable table of contents, yet, it is simply a listing, in order, of everything in this newsletter. For those of you who submit things to me to be added to the newsletter, you may want to consider using descriptive titles for your submission in the future, otherwise I will continue to make them up..

Matt’s Blog:

Blog - an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page

So the past week was very busy, but also fairly typical of what my weeks have been like lately. On Friday night, we had a small get-together that “Snookies” catered for us with all kinds of great creations. The food was a big hit and I highly recommend you patronize this place on the west side of Preston Road, north of Warren Parkway. You won’t find a lot of that catered food on the menu but you can always talk to them about catering a party for you. Nonetheless, just go eat there. Good food and good people.

The weekend saw the Great Steak of Texas festival at Frisco Square. Living in Frisco Square is really cool, especially when there is some kind of event going on there or across the street at Pizza Hut Park. We walked around the festival and what a great location to have these kinds of events. We enjoyed the sweet corn on the cob and RoBear’s salsa…yum! It’s just a shame that more people didn’t come to this great event.

That night, Saturday night, we attended the one of our city’s newest service organizations, the Frisco Noon Lions Club’s banquet where I gave the invocation and Mayor Simpson gave the opening remarks. Seemed to be a great turnout for their installation night.

As soon as it was over, it was right back to Frisco Square where the main act that night during the festival was Uncle Kracker. Now, you may not know who he is, but he put on a pretty decent show and we were right up front for it.

On Sunday afternoon, we walked the festival again and talked to some of the vendors who had mixed reactions on the crowd. Folks, when there is a festival in town like this, make a point of at least stopping by to check it out.

Also on Sunday, we were invited to the La Madeleine “training” opening (at Parkwood and 121) where they were practicing before their grand opening a couple of days later. The food was fantastic and I highly recommend it. In fact, they opened on Tuesday, October 3rd, so we went by for a great breakfast.

Monday night we ate at Cantina Laredo at Legacy and 121. As I mentioned in the spotlight above, if you go there, you have to try their “Ceviche”. As you can probably tell, we really enjoy our food & dining experiences!

Tuesday night was council meeting night and that lasted close to six hours. A handful of people came out to speak about the proposed late night hours ordinance and the proposed changes to the sign ordinance. Both ultimately got tabled after lots of discussion.

Bright and early Wednesday morning I headed to the windy city itself, Chicago (where I am writing this from), for the HR technology show where my company, HRchitect, has a booth. I love Chicago and the Navy Pier area where the show is located, it is a really cool place. The temperatures got down to the low 60’s, which felt great, and it was extremely windy as we walked to dinner last night.

I’ll fly back Thursday night and the newsletter will magically appear in your inbox sometime after that.

Have a great week and enjoy the newsletter!

Collin County Ballet Theatre – Sugar Plum Fairy Teas:

Collin County Ballet Theatre Guild is excited to announce the dates for this year’s Sugar Plum Fairy Teas.

Sunday, November 26, 2006 and Sunday, December 10, 2006 from 2-4pm.

The Collin County Ballet Theatre Guild is pleased to announce the dates for this year’s much-anticipated Sugar Plum Fairy’s Teas.  The teas have become a tradition for families in Frisco and the surrounding communities to kick-off the holiday season!  This premier mother-daughter (or grandparent-grandchild) event is always a desirable destination and the seats sell out quickly.

Make your reservations early for either date and the elegant Westin Stonebriar in Frisco is again sponsoring the ballet guild fundraiser.

The tea is a great value; all tea guests are treated to a parade of all the Nutcracker ballet characters led by Clara, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.  There will be short performances of dances from the Nutcracker.

In addition to a lovely high tea service complete with sweets, finger sandwiches, scones, strawberries and cream, each guest will get a photograph of themselves taken with the Sugar Plum Fairy, Clara and other beloved characters from the ballet.  Mice, soldiers, Clara’s friends and other surprise characters mix and mingle with our wee guests during the tea for informal photo and dancing opportunities!  There is a raffle for a ballerina bear and other nice gifts; and finally a goodie-bag for our small guests to take home!

There is a holiday boutique with special ballet treasures and ornaments for purchase.

Put on your holiday clothes to come enjoy an old-fashioned tea.

For tea reservations please call: 469.951.1399. Price: $25. Master Card/Visa accepted. More information at www.CCBallet.com

Please note that the full Nutcracker Ballet will be performed by the Collin County Ballet Theatre at two sites again this year.  The first performance is at the elegant Eisemann Theatre in Richardson on Sunday, December 3rd at 5:00p with the Plano Symphony Orchestra. There will be two performances in Frisco at the new Wakeland High School’s “state of the art” auditorium, Saturday, December 9th at 2:00p and 7:30p. You won’t want to miss this traditional holiday event! Nutcracker performance tickets may be purchased from the Plano Symphony Box Office at 972-473-7262.
