Answering Questions for Kids and Young Adults:
As you know, communication and sharing information is something that I spend a lot of time doing. I frequently get asked to answer questions for kids and young adults for school projects or leadership programs. Usually the project involves getting these questions answered from somebody in a leadership position, and as a City Council member, I’m always happy to take the time to do this. If your son or daughter ever needs questions answered from a leadership figure for projects of any kind, please feel free to contact me or have them contact me directly.
Alternatively, if your child is interested in learning more about city government and has questions, feel free to contact me.
Finally, if you are looking for a speaker to talk to a group of kids or young adults about city government or Frisco in general, I’m happy to try and schedule something.

Citizen of the Month and Neighborhood of the Month Details
If you have a citizen or neighborhood you would like to nominate, please send it to me.
The Citizen of the Month will focus on a person in Frisco who has been nominated by another individual. He or she could be a person who has recently done something special that contributes to the well-being of our city and/or its citizens, or it could be somebody who has had (or currently has) an interesting career or experiences that could be shared with our readers.
The Neighborhood of the Month will highlight a particular neighborhood in our city. I am looking to hear from you as to why your Neighborhood is so special.
Please send an email to community@mattlafatamarketing.com to nominate and explain why a Frisco citizen or a neighborhood should be honored with this monthly recognition.
March Citizen of the Month
The March citizen of the month is Rosemarie Odom, United States Marshall – Justice Department!!! Resident Glenn Kopanski, who is retired from the United States Navy, submitted Rosemarie and she was chosen the winner. I interviewed Glenn about Rosemarie and why she is so deserving of this recognition.
Glenn, tell everybody about Rosemarie Odom
Matt, I have known Rosemarie for three years and since knowing her my life has changed, from being alone in Lewisville to moving to Frisco in 2004 buying a home in the Trails of West Frisco and being involved in so many things that are important in our Community. I being an Aid's Patient know of this woman's desire to help others in the same condition as I am in. She sacrifices most of her off time to so many different issues concerning this Virus. She served on the Board of Directors at Aids Services of North Texas/Denton for many years, since resigning she has focused on assisting and being on the Board of Directors at the Resource Center Dallas a Non-Profit to those with Aid's in Dallas County. She is part of the main structure of World Aid's Day bringing remembrance for those who have perished with Aid's since the beginning. She attends just about every function that brings funding to several of these Non-Profits. She spends time in the Hospitals with dying Patients and just has a heart of Gold. I myself know first hand the love that comes from her heart and I am so very honored to be her friend for life, something I lacked before meeting her, dealing with my own discriminations having the Virus.
Rosemarie has also assisting me in speaking to our kids in Frisco Schools since October. She has served the U.S. Marshall Service for 35 years and it going to retire at the end of March. Her husband Tony Odom was a Chief Marshall retiring several years ago, and still working in our Prison Systems. They both should be admired as people of the month, they sacrifice much of their off time together to assist in this mission.
So, I feel they should be commended when no one else will do so. I love the both of them for what they do and for what they are, if we had more like them in our world, imagine how wonderful place this would be to live in. I being United States Navy Retired can relate to them as we are all Government, but the one thing we share alike with each other is our passion to make a difference in our Community.
I thank you for reading this and I am hoping sincerely they are recognized for the work they do, not only for our Government and Nation but for their compassion to help others.
Congratulations Rosemarie! You certainly are an amazing person and I feel privileged to know you.
Wine Question of the Week:
Since we enjoy a glass of wine from time to time, we have become more fascinated with wine in general and in trying to learn more about wine. This week’s question…
Q. What is the difference between Champagne and sparkling wine?
A. Only a sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France can be called Champagne, even if it is made from the same type of grape as Champagne using the same production techniques. Sparkling wine in Spain is referred to as cava, in Germany it is called sekt, and in Italy it is called spumante. Sparkling wines made in the U.S. by the same method of production used in the Champagne district in France are sometimes labeled as 'methode Champenoise' wines.
City of Frisco Related Question of the Week:
Q. Is it possible to change your property line? I would like to purchase a portion of my neighbors backyard in order to make my own backyard larger.
A. Purchasing a portion of the adjacent lot will require that a replat of the two lots is done to show the new property lines. You will need to have a surveyor prepare the replat and it will have to be signed by both property owners. It is also important to keep in mind that all lots have a minimum lot depth requirement. This requirement varies depending upon the zoning district the lots are located in. The lot being reduced in length will still need to meet the minimum lot depth. The replat of the two lots will then go to the Planning & Zoning Commission for their final approval. Most replats take approximately 30 days from the date of application until they appear before the Commission.
Deep Thoughts from The Boss
Since I am a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen, and he is such a profound and prolific songwriter, I’ve decided to include some of my favorite lines from his vast collection of music.

Featured Holiday of the Week - Passover – April 3:
In the days before Passover, the house is prepared. All traces of bread, or anything using yeast, is eaten or removed from the house, and all of the dishes, silverware, pots and pans are changed for a set that is used only for Passover.
History of Passover relates back to over 3,000 years ago, when the Jews were held as slaves by the Egyptian Pharaoh, Rameses II. Moses, who looked after the cause of the Jews, asked Pharaoh several times to release them from slavery, and warned Him that he would devastate his people by plagues. Moses inflicted 10 plagues, and after all the 9 plagues, the Pharaoh agreed to release the Jews from slavery, but quickly changed his mind. After the 10th plague however, he let the Jews go. The Jews left in a hurry, owing to the fickle-mindness of the Pharaoh, and could thus only take unleavened bread with them, called Matza, which is a part of celebration even today. As expected, the Pharaoh send his army after the Jews so that they could be brought back. The jews traveled for 40 days and nights, and reached Red Sea, where they saw the emperor's army advancing towards them. In despair they asked for help from Moses, who parted the waters of Red Sea for the Jews to cross. As soon as the Jews crossed, the Red Sea regained and drowned the soldiers.
Since the time of Jewish freedom from Egyptian slavery, Jews have celebrated this historical event by having a feast called the 'Seder'. The word 'Seder' means 'order' and refers to the order of historical events recalled in the Passover meal as well as the meal itself. The story of Passover is read from a book called the 'Haggadah'. While the main story of Passover is read by Jews the world over, local customs and traditions have changed over time, so that the festival has been adapted to reflect the life and routine of individual communities.
Passover is celebrated for 8 days (7 for Reform Jews), and always begins on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan.
March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month:
Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Only lung cancer claims more lives. This year nearly 131,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer and 56,000 will die.
But it begins as a polyp. Remove the polyp and you don't get this cancer. The End of Colon Cancer Begins With Your Screening. Get It Done and Tell Someone.
There are many outstanding efforts going on to: learn more about this cancer; raise awareness; increase the number of people being screened; and bring more resources to this fight. During National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, these important points about colorectal cancer are communicated:

How to “Whitelist” this Frisco Community Newsletter in Your Spam Filter:
With the advent of outrageous volumes of unwanted email these days, of which I get a ton, it's unfortunate that legitimate email publications like this are not being seen by some of the readers who enjoy those publications. There is much fear today that the email publishing/marketing industry is in serious trouble, due to mistakes in filtering when legitimate email is erroneously tagged as unwanted email.
While we applaud the anti-spam industry for removing the plethora of unwanted email from many of our mailboxes, from time to time, some legitimate email publications are mistaken as unwanted.
Sometimes, this results in our mailings bouncing back, with requests for us to respond to challenge/response messages to prevent future filtering. However, due to the size of our list, it's nearly impossible for us handle the volume of such requests.
To that end, please realize that we want our readers to always anticipate and enjoy the valuable information that this community newsletter delivers.
If you currently use an anti-spam program or service, we ask that you take just a minute or two to add this newsletter to your "safe" or permitted email sender list. This usually involves simply adding our sending address (From:) to your whitelist, safelist, or list of privileged senders. This is commonly known as whitelisting a publication. Simply add the email addresses of matt@mattlafata.com and matt@mattlafatamarketing.com.
If you wish to be removed from this list, please send an email to matt@mattlafata.com.

Tornado Talk…by Junior Sports Reporter, Kaleigh Lafata:
The Tornado had a very nice sweep over the 4th place Wichita Falls Wildcats. Friday night was a 5-2 win and Saturday was even better, a 6-3 win. Congratulations to Sean Roadhouse as he was named the Sher-Wood NAHL South Division Player of the Week with five goals and three assists in the last two games.
The Tornado started off the game with Brad McCabe scoring a power play goal 4 minutes in. Nielsson Arcibal and Sean Roadhouse assisted. The next goal was from all the same people with Sean Roadhouse scoring and the other 2 assisting. Wichita Falls snuck one goal in, but it was returned by Nielsson Arcibal’s shorthanded, unassisted goal. In the 2nd period, Sean Roadhouse had his 2nd goal of the night. And in the 3rd period Stephane Da Costa to make the score 5-1, but Wichita added one more goal to the board to end the game 5-2. The Tornado completely out shot them 38-16. The 3 stars were Nielsson Arcibal, Brad McCabe and Sean Roadhouse.
Saturday night they traveled to Wichita Falls to bring home a 6-3 victory. Sean Roadhouse started off the game with his 3rd goal of the series. Wichita tied the game 1-1 for a little while but Ben Miller changed it to 2-1 heading into the 2nd period. Sean Roadhouse scored two goals right in a row to get himself a hat trick for the night. Brad McCabe and Jake Newton assisted on the first goal and Rob Blanchette and Lyon Messier on the 2nd one. A minute later Wichita put one behind Thomas Tragust and minuste after that, Stephane Da Costa made the score 5-2 with Jake Newton and Sean Roadhouse assisting. The game was very high scoring, yet there were no penalties at all in the 3rd period. Jake Newton scored and Wichita attempted a comeback. With 40 seconds left in the game. So the Tornado scored the victory 6-3, with Sean Roadhouse achieving a hat trick. Shots on goal were 39 to 30.
This weekend the Tornado play their final two games of the season against the St. Louis Bandits. Even though there’s no chance the Tornado can wind up in first place, they are still in the playoffs which start on April 7th and 8th. Be sure to make it to the games this weekend, so you won’t miss out on seeing the boys play one last time.
